The Middle East Cultural Odyssey: A Journey Through History

The most exotic odyssey commences in Istanbul city which seems to successfully blend the old with the new, lying across both Europe and Asia. Vibrant Istanbul greets you, angling you into colorful bazaars, historic mosques, and grand palaces. Iconic landmarks that will be visited in this Middle East Cultural Odyssey include the Blue Mosque, an exceptionally wonderful example of Ottoman architecture, and Hagia Sophia symbol of Byzantine heritage.

Middle East Cultural Odyssey

It follows with remains of the Hippodrome, which was once a heartbeat of social life in Constantinople, and through huge Topkapi Palace-home to sultans of Ottomans. Visiting the Grand Bazaar brings an insight into local culture with its labyrinthine shops full of anything from spices to jewelry. The Middle East Cultural Odyssey lets you soak in the atmosphere of Istanbul and then whisks you off to a very scenic Bosphorus Cruise, with breathtaking views of the city’s skyline and a unique perspective on the divide between Europe and Asia. A flight then whisks you away to Cappadocia for surreal landscapes of ‘fairy chimneys’, cave houses, and ancient churches carved into volcanic rock.

Göreme Open-Air Museum forms part of the Middle East Cultural Odyssey, one of various UNESCO World Heritage sites featuring rock-cut churches decorated with frescoes as early as the 10th century. Other Cappadocia adventures include hikes in the Red Valley, underground city exploration in both Kaymakli and Derinkuyu and village visits to Uchisar, dominated by a tall rock castle.

Greece: Islands and Ancient Wonders Tour
Continue your Middle East Cultural Odyssey to Greece, where the first stop is the idyllic island of Mykonos. Mykonos personifies Greek Islands with whitewashed houses and iconic windmills. Days here may be spent lying on golden beaches, wandering through the narrow streets of Mykonos Town, and indulging in the famous cosmopolitan nightlife of this island. Evenings offer the perfect time for dinner at traditional tavernas, where one can sample the local cuisine as part of the Middle East Cultural Odyssey.

From Mykonos, the Middle East Cultural Odyssey moves by ferry to Santorini, which, to a great degree, is famous for its dramatic landscapes, breathtaking sunsets, and unique beaches. Take your time to wander the quaint villages of Santorini, walk along the caldera from Fira to Oia, and enjoy the breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea. The remains of the ancient Akrotiri, a Minoan Bronze Age settlement that was smothered under volcanic ash, have been a testament to times long past. The local wines add to the seafood and, thus, the culinary magic of Santorini, further enhancing your Middle East Cultural Odyssey.

Your Greece Middle East Cultural Odyssey concludes in Athens, the cradle of Western civilization. The half-day city tour takes you to the Acropolis to show you the Parthenon, the Erechtheion, and the Temple of Athena Nike this morning. Additional information about Greece’s glorious past comes from the Acropolis Museum and the ancient Agora. Take an evening stroll through Plaka, one of the most beautiful neoclassical districts of Athens, with quaint shops and traditional tavernas that give a real taste of old Athens.
