Al Maghtas, also referred to as Bethany Beyond the Amman Jordan, is an important religious site situated on the eastern bank of the Jordan River. This is a place considered by many to be the baptism site of Jesus by John the Baptist. It is noted and recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site for the dissemination of history and religion. The site contains remains of ancient churches and pools previously used for baptism, with natural landscapes forming the setting for the baptism.
